Cornelius 'Corny & Corndog' Gail Werito: A Celebration of Life and Homecoming
Cornelius Gail Werito was born on August 5, 1967, at BIC in Otis, New Mexico, and was a longtime resident of Farmington, New Mexico. He was the fifth child of Andrew and Susie Werito from Farmington, New Mexico. Cornelius' paternal grandparents were Billy and Ella Werito from Bisti, New Mexico, and his maternal grandparents were Bert and Ann White from Sweetwater, Arizona.
Cornelius Werito passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He lived a life dedicated to Christ until the age of 57. As the Men's Leader at his home church, Cornelius enjoyed participating in the Homeless Outreach Ministry. He was passionate about praying and ministering the word of God to the homeless and addicted.
Cornelius attended BIC School until the sixth grade and then transitioned to the Bloomfield School District, graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1985.
At the age of 18, Cornelius began working as a flooring apprentice with his father, Andrew Werito. He quickly became a master of his trade, working at Royal Floor Company, Carpet One Plus, and Rite Way Flooring in Durango, Colorado. Due to a health condition, Cornelius retired from his flooring career in 2011.
In 2005, Cornelius committed his life to his eternal Savior Jesus at a Holy Ghost Revival in Blanco, New Mexico. This experience radically changed his life forever.
Cornelius had a deep affection for animals and had many pets in his household. Recently, he added two kittens, Ten Bears and Wormzer. He also had two dogs, Levi and Junior, whom he lovingly referred to as 'The Boys.' Additionally, Cornelius had a parakeet named Isaac and enjoyed feeding and watering the cattle at the family ranch house in Bisti, New Mexico.
Cornelius Gail Werito is survived by his daughter, Shundeen Howe, and two granddaughters. He is also survived by his loving parents, Andrew and Susie Werito, and his siblings: Cordell and Cecilia Werito, Virgil Anderson Werito, Michael Billy Werito, and Shaun Andrew Werito.
Cornelius is survived by his nieces and nephews: Cory Odell Werito, Varian Anderson Werito, Cassandra and Fabian Valdez, Catrina Nan Werito, Cyle Odell Werito, and Cordelia Ella Werito.
Additionally, Cornelius is survived by 15 grandchildren, whom he loved and cared for deeply.
Cornelius Gail Werito was preceded in death by his grandparents Billy and Ella Werito, Bert and Ann White, Etta Benally, Lorena Begay, Kenneth White, Jessie Harvey, Irene Werito (his former wife), and his sister Denise Renee Werito.
