Corrina Jane Smith, of the Alvarado community of Washington County, Va., went to be with her Lord and Savior on her 78th birthday after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Jane was born to the late Lonnie South and Lura Bott South in the Greendale Community of Washington County, Va. She attended Alvarado Bible Church, and harbored a deep loved for the Lord, spending many evenings immersed in reading and studying her Bible. Jane was a humble and caring woman who went out of her way to assist others.
Jane worked as a seamstress at Harwood Manufacturing, served as a CNA at Johnston Memorial Hospital, and ultimately retired from the Washington County Virginia School System, after serving as a custodian at Glade Spring Middle School.
During her free time Jane loved to sew, mending clothes for family and friends with care. She also had an aptitude for cooking.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Earnest South, Paul South, Don South, Fred South; and an additional brother who died in infancy; four sisters, Bertha Deel, Lois Holmes, Pauline Carberry, and Jean Calloway.
Jane is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dean Smith; son, Jason Smith and fiancee, Heather Blevins, of Abingdon, Va.; three fur babies, Sassy, Willey, and Marley; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Garrett Family Cemetery (inside Greendale Chapel Cemetery on Route 700) with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to her caregiver, Heather Blevins; and Jenna Ward of Gentiva Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided.
