Corrine Kubal, age 93 of Scotland, SD died Tuesday, March 11, 2025 at the Scotland Good Samaritan Center. Her funeral is 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Scotland. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be held at a later date.
Corrine (Heckenlaible) Kubal was born July 4, 1931 on the farm near Menno. She was the second child of Julius and Helena Heckenlaible. Corrine graduated from Menno High School and went on the graduate from Sacred Heart School of Nursing. She met Martin Kubal and they were married May 24, 1952. They lived on a farm 2½ miles from Lesterville and raised 5 children, Deborah Kubal of Scotland, Kathy Kubal (Phil) of Buffalo, MN, Fred Kubal (Virginia) of Scotland, Robert Kubal (Vicki) of Brookings and Daniel Kubal (Laurie) of Port Charlotte, FL. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She kept busy caring for her family and being a farm wife. She started her nursing career when the Scotland Hospital opened and worked there for several years. She then worked several years at the Scotland Good Samaritan Home, the Human Services Center, then Sacred Heart Monastery, finishing her nursing career in Home Health, which she thoroughly enjoyed.
Corrine was noted for her cooking and wonderful baking of kolaches, kuchen and breads, which she served to many over the years. She was also an avid gardener and loved her roses. She enjoyed watching and playing games with her grandchildren. She was involved in numerous organizations in the Scotland area and was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Corrine is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and sister-in-law, Marcy Kudrna.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Martin; brother, Don Heckenlaible; sister, Gladys VanDuyn; mother and father-in-law, Martin and Frances Kubal and in-laws, Frances and William Kotalik, Pat and Tony Cacek, Joe and Agnes Krcil, Dutch Kudrna, Bernard and Phyllis Kubal, George and Adeline Kubal and Margaret Mazourek.
