In remembence of the life of Corry Rickenbacker, who was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and was a longtime resident of
Staten Island, New York. Corry passed away on March 19, 2025, surrounded by his family and friends.
Corry was known for his vibrant spirit, comedic personality, and undeniable charisma. He had a deep love for everyone he met, a passion for sports, and an appreciation for the great outdoors and animals. Corry's zest for life was evident in his love of riding motorcycles and bicycles-pursuits that brought him immense joy and freedom. He also had a passion for looking good. Always sporting new clothes and sneakers, Corry loved to present himself with style and confidence. He had the most beautiful smile and knew how to light up the room whenever he walked in. Everyone loved him.
Born on January 25, 1973, Corry dedicated 20 years of his life working as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) for the State of New York at SIDDSO, where he touched countless lives with his compassion, dedication, and commitment to helping others. He had a lot of love and was deeply committed to helping those he worked with who were developmentally disabled, always ensuring they felt cared for and supported. Corry also enjoyed working with his co-workers, who appreciated his warm spirit and his passion for the job he loved so much. He was devoted to participating in the Five Boro New York City Bike Tour, a passion that reflected his love for cycling and his vibrant connection to the city he called home. In his younger years, Corry played basketball for Concord High School's basketball team, where he was a very skilled and talented player.
He is survived by his mother, Yvonne Gonzalez; his five siblings, Lawan Rickenbacker, Timothy (wife Carla) Baez, Ricky Rickenbacker, Sha-ron Rickenbacker, and ShaQuana Young-Bailey; his four children, Jelisa Degroat, Anaisa Rickenbacker, Corry Johnathan Rickenbacker, and Jack Rickenbacker; and his three grandchildren, Aiden, Jayda, and Amora. Corry was preceded in death by his Grandmother, Josephina Ortiz; Grandmother, Lottie-Bell Rickenbacker; father, Timothy Rickenbacker; his uncle, Albert Gonzalez; and his stepdad, Desmond McNeil; and God-mother, Ollie Brewer.
Corry was loved by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, step-mother, step-siblings, God-sisters, extended family, and an abundance of friends, old and new.
Corry's memory will forever be cherished by those who loved him. His legacy of love, compassion, and resilience will continue to inspire us all.
A memorial service to celebrate Corry's life will be held on March 29, 2025, at Forest North Funeral Chapel, 747 Forest Ave,
Staten Island, NY 10310. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor the incredible life Corry lived.
