Cory Wynn Heiser, 61, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025 at his home in Red Brook Park surrounded by his family.
He was born June 25, 1964 in Ashtabula, the son of Richard and Sandra (Ford) Heiser and graduated as a Mariner from Harbor High School after spending his first 3 years of high school as an Ashtabula Panther.
Cory entered the US Army right after high school and served for nearly 3 years before being honorably discharged on September 14, 1986, after serving in Korea.
Cory lived and raised his family in Grove City, Ohio for 20 years. He worked with a friend at a beer distributor in Columbus, Ohio for a short while before beginning a 19-year career with Brinks, a job his time for which his time in the Army prepared him well. He drove truck protecting large sums of money for businesses and governments and served as a firearms trainer and instructor. He was an expert marksman and well respected among his peers.
In 2020, Cory returned to Ashtabula and began a new career as a landscaper for Goodwill Industries. We will always be grateful for dear friends Phil and Sandy Johnston for this new venture and years of dedicated friendship.
A member of Messiah Lutheran Church where he was raised, he will always be remembered for his kindness and generosity. When his brother Scot was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident, he was at his side for an extended period of time providing wonderful care and support.
Cory loved animals, especially dogs. An avid fisherman, he loved Lake Erie and all the time he was able to spend with his family and friends at the Red Brook where his family cottage had been for many years.
His survivors include his children, Brandon Joseph (McKaley) Heiser, Bailey Jordan Heiser, and Jack (Abby) Hickman; six grandchildren, Addison, Bowen, Crew, Kove, Evalyn, and Elanor and one grandchild on the way that he was so excited to meet; his parents, Dick and Sandy Heiser; two brothers, Chad (Jill) Heiser and Scot (Patti Boring) Heiser; his sister, Holly (John) Heiser-Ague; nieces and nephews, Rebecca (Tommy) Stanley, Charlotte and Zachary Heiser, Max, Findleigh, Sam, Isabel, and Weston Ague; great-nieces and nephews, Charlie, Savannah, Noah, Brady, and Kaiden.
He was preceded in death by maternal and paternal grandparents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date (probably next July 2026) with full military honors and a prayer service by Rev. Sarah Moore, Pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church. His remains will be placed in Saybrook Cemetery with a portion scattered in Lake Erie per his wishes.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Messiah Lutheran Church Foundation, 615 West Prospect Road, Ashtabula, OH 44004, the Red Brook Park Co. Recreation Fund, 5021 Lake Road W #17, Ashtabula, OH 44004, or Bella Care Hospice, 1933 SR 45, Austinburg, Ohio 44010.
