Courtney Cunningham Adang, 46, resident of Athens, GA, wife and mother, passed away June 2, 2025 joining her mother, Deborah Cunningham, grandparents Holmes and Gerry Cunningham of Newnan, GA, and Billy and Mildred Franklin of Lawrenceville, GA in eternal life. She is survived by her husband, Mike Adang, daughter, Julia, father, Robert "Bob" Cunningham, brother, Robert Franklin Cunningham, and many family members.
Courtney was a graduate of Clarke Central High School. She attended UGA where she earned her B.A. in Political Science and Master's degree in Elementary School Education from Piedmont College.
Courtney started her teaching career at Barnett Shoals Elementary School in Clarke County. She continued her teaching career at Athens Academy where her daughter, Julia, currently attends. While remaining home to care for her family, Courtney continued to actively pursue her education by working toward her specialist degree.
After years of perseverance and many obstacles, Courtney's greatest joy was the day she brought her daughter, Julia, home to Athens, GA from Ethiopia.
Courtney enjoyed attending concerts, especially Dave Matthews, Adele, John Prine and Dwight Yoakam. She loved spending time at St. Simon's Island with her family. Courtney and her family were big fans and supporters of the Atlanta Hawks and the Atlanta Dreams taking in many games. A recent highlight in Courtney's life was taking Julia to a Taylor Swift concert in Atlanta, GA.
Courtney's life reflected her love for her family and the simple things that made each day meaningful. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025 beginning at 2 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 3 p.m at Lord and Stephens East Chapel.
