Coy Barnett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yancey Funeral Services - Burnsville on Jul. 17, 2025.
Coy Barnett, age 79, of Johnson City, TN, went Home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025. A native of Mitchell County, NC, he was one of 17 children to the late Ray and Mary Peterson Barnett. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Noah Barnett; three sisters: Josephine Barnett, Zula Yelton, and Zora Barnett; sister-in-law, Kay Barnett; and three brothers-in-law: Bob Yelton, Eddie Gouge, and Mark Robison.

Coy grew up in a large family in a home filled with love and laughter. He loved all of his family, but had an extra special bond with his brother, Noah. He loved the outdoors and the beauty of God's creation, walking, hiking, and going to parks. He also enjoyed photography, traveling and, in his younger years, liked going fishing. He loved going to church at Cherry Grove Baptist Church and never missed a church service.

Left to cherish his memory are 5 brothers: Tony Barnett of Lenoir, Clay Barnett (Maybelline "Cricket") of Green Mountain, Owen Barnett (Judy) of Green Mountain, Embert Barnett (Sandra) of Green Mountain, and Lindsey Barnett (Jeannie) of Green Mountain; and 7 sisters: Trula Yelton of Bakersville, Opal Jones (Carson) of Burnsville, Frances Gouge of Jonesborough, TN, Barbara Miller (Larry) of Green Mountain, Oma Jones (Dennis) of Spruce Pine, Mable Robison of Green Mountain, and Otehia Hollifield (Rick) of Bakersville. He is survived as well by numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and other extended family.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22nd in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Service. Rev. Rick Hollifield will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23rd at the Byrd Cemetery.

The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregivers at Core Services of North East Tennessee for the love that was shown and the wonderful care given to Coy for the past 20 years.
