Mary Edwards Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yancey Funeral Services - Burnsville on Mar. 4, 2026.
Mary Frances Edwards, age 95, of the South Toe Community, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 3rd, 2026 at The Greens of Spruce Pine. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Haskie and Ora Lewis Honeycutt . In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Horace Edwards and her brothers: Mack, Roy, Junior, and Dean Honeycutt and a sister, Helen Robinson.

Mary was a woman who found her greatest joy in life's simple and beautiful moments. She loved working among her flowers and could often be found tending her garden with care and pride. She had a special fondness for hummingbirds and took great pleasure in bird watching. It brought her peace to sit quietly and observe their delicate movements.

Mary was spry and spunky even in her later years. Her energy and spirit never seemed to fade, and she welcomed company with open arms. She truly loved when family and friends stopped by to visit. With her, you always knew exactly where you stood. She was genuine, straightforward, and strong in her convictions. A hardworking and dedicated homemaker, Mary took pride in caring for her household and the people she loved. Above all else, Mary loved her family more than anything.

Left to cherish her memory is her three sons: Billy Edwards (Ann) of South Toe, Alden Edwards (Diane) of Bowditch and James Edwards (Sandra) of Virginia; grandchildren: Kim Wilson (Kenny), Amanda Cooper (Matt), Jimmy Edwards (Heidi), Daniel Edwards and Matthew Edwards; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Carrie Garland.

Funeral Services will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, March 9th, 2026 in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. David Brown will be officiating and Kenny Wilson will be speaking. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. A private burial will be held in the McCraken Cemetery.
