With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the passing of Cora Mae Edwards, lovingly known to many as “Granny Cracky,” of Wingate, North Carolina.
Cora Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Absalom and Mae Evelyn Harwood; her brothers, Johnny Harwood and Timmy Harwood; her sister, Rose Mullis; and her daughter, Billie Anne Edwards.
Cora is survived by her brother, Abbey Harwood (Pam). She is lovingly remembered by her children: Allen Edwards (Penny), David Edwards (Pamela), and Debra Edwards. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Brittany Edwards, Meghan Edwards, Brandon Shearin, and Rebecca Thomas (William), as well as her beloved great-grandson, William Everette Thomas.
Cora Mae was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and a proud great-grandmother. Those who knew her best will always remember her as a strong-willed woman with a personality all her own—her quirky ways earning her the unforgettable name “Granny Cracky.” She had a way of making life colorful and memorable for everyone around her.
Her home was filled with love, laughter, and the comforting smell of her cooking. Her children will forever miss her pork chops and her biscuits, made with care and tradition. Her grandchildren will always remember her pies, baked with love. These small, meaningful moments made her all the more special and deeply loved.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Sunday, March 22nd, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Austin Grove Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 5919 Austin Grove Church Road, Marshville, NC 28103.
The family kindly requests donations be made to VIA Health Partners and Hospice of Union County in her honor. Flowers are also welcome.
Though she is no longer with us, the love, strength, and memories Cora Mae gave so freely will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
