With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Craig Alan Downum. Craig died on September 22, 2024, at the age of 63, at his Meridian home with his loving wife Dawn at his side. Born on December 22, 1960, in Boise, Idaho, Craig dedicated his life to serving others, embodying quiet strength and unwavering support for those around him.
Craig was a carpenter and accomplished in kitchen design, remodel and renovations, and an all-round handyman; skills learned from his dad and honed over a lifetime. His vocation exemplified his commitment to hard work and craftsmanship. Beyond his profession, he was a beloved husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend. His legacy of honesty, steadfastness, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew him.
For 30 joyful years, Craig shared a beautiful life with his wife, Dawn. Together, they celebrated the simple pleasures of family gatherings, camping, hunting, fishing and close connection with their grandchildren watching them grow into the young adults they are today. Craig's pride in his sonJustin Downum and partner Ashley Holomshek and his love for step-children Scott McMahan and Molly Thomas-McMahanwas matched only by his adoration for their four grandchildren: Daniel and Jazzmyne Thomas, James McMahan, and Trinity Chrusoskie, and her husband Cameron.
Every fall, Craig and Dawn traveled to the Owyhees, often accompanied by their son Justin, where they enjoyed a week filled with hunting, laughter, and heartfelt conversations. Downum family dinners and holiday gatherings were animated with joy, laughter, and the warm connection that defined Craig's life. For the last seventeen years, Craig was employed by Dillabaugh's Flooring America first as a cabinet installer and remodeler. Within his first year he became the manager of the cabinet division and sales. His dedication to quality went hand in hand with his unwavering commitment to taking care of people. Craig believed that every customer deserved not just a finished product, but a positive experience. His friendly demeanor and willingness to go the extra mile were the hallmarks of Craigs work ethic with co-workers and customers alike.
Craig faced a stage IV Glioblastoma diagnosis with courage and grace. His prognosis quickly moved from less than two years, to less than two months and Craig accepted the most aggressive treatment possible to extend his life. Determined to live out his days surrounded by the love of God, family, and friends; he faced the challenge with remarkable strength. Craig is dearly missed by all who loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Downum, with whom he shared a deep bond. In addition to his wife Dawn, children Justin, Scott and Molly, and grandchildren Daniel, Jazzmyne, James and Trinity (Cameron), Craig is survived by his mother, Doris Downum; siblings Doug Downum (Patty), Brenda Downum (Dave Fishel), and Alisa Smith (Joey); his father in-law Cread Delore and mother in-law Teresa DeLore; brother-in-law Brian DeLore (Lisa) and sisters-in-law Larraine ONeal; Mona Munos (John); many nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 27, at 2:00 PM at Prairie's Edge, located at 9000 Kuna Road, Kuna, Idaho. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a GoFundMe to honor Craig's legacy and assist with his medical expenses. Donations can be made online at https://gofund.me/f197d13b.
