Craig D. Farr, affectionately known as "The Big Guy" and "Chief," passed away peacefully on Monday, September 15, 2025, at the Veterans Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Craig proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force, where he embodied leadership, strength, and dedication. He was a proud veteran who was called upon to serve during Operation Desert Shield and the Grenada Invasion.

In addition to his admirable military career, Craig continued a life of service through his distinguished tenure with the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission. He steadily rose through the ranks to become Director of Custody Operations for the New Jersey Training School and the Johnstone Campus. He later served as Superintendent of the New Jersey Training School and returned as Employee Relations Coordinator. At the time of retirement, he held the position of Deputy Executive Director of Operations. His career was defined by integrity, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to guiding and protecting young lives. He also shared an enduring bond with his military and law enforcement brothers and sisters throughout his career, many of whom visited him every day until it was time to say goodbye-a testament to the deep respect and loyalty he inspired.

Beyond his professional achievements, Craig was a man of many passions. He loved sports, was a chess mastermind, and enjoyed immersing himself in history. He also enjoyed golfing, hiking, spending time at the beach, and had a unique passion for predicting the weather-often entertaining family and friends with his forecasts. In retirement, some of his greatest joys came from the simple moments-driving his youngest son to and from school, teaching him football techniques, and ending each evening together gazing at the stars and the moon. These are the moments that will be sorely missed by those who loved him most.

He was predeceased by his parents, Richard C. Farr and Shirley Farr (née Harman). Craig is survived by his wife, Yael Farr (née Respes), and his beloved children: Paige (Ryan) Stanley, Harrison Farr, Sean Farr, Alexis Farr (Tyler Franco), Evana (Chaim) Romano, Nicholas Farr, and Rafael Farr. He was a proud grandfather to Jacob, Vincent, Heidi, and Joslyn Stanley; Luca Franco; and baby Romano. He was the cherished brother of Joan (Charles) Patterson, Terry (Constance) Farr, and Richard C. (Kadine) Farr. Craig also leaves behind his faithful fur baby, Sparkey, who was his loyal companion.

Craig's legacy is one of service, leadership, love, and devotion. His memory will live on in his family, friends, colleagues, and all who were touched by his life. In recognition of his decades of devoted service to both his country and the State of New Jersey, Craig will be honored with a State Honor Guard and a Military Guard.

Relatives, friends, and members of our armed services who proudly served are encouraged to attend Craig's service on Sunday, September 21, 2025, beginning at 9:15 a.m. at Platt Memorial Chapels, Inc. Visitation will be held from 9:15-10:00 a.m., followed promptly by funeral services at 10:00 a.m. The service will also be live streamed by clicking on the Memorial Video link at the bottom of this page. Interment with the honor guard will follow in Hamburg, Pennsylvania.

After the burial, the family will receive visitors later in the afternoon at the home of Hilary & Harry Platt on Sunday only, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm, with Mincha services at 5:30 pm. Visitation will conclude after Mincha services.
