Craig Horner Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maas-Hurley Funeral Home - Manito on Jan. 3, 2026.
Craig Horner joined The Kingdom of Heaven peacefully at his home in Manito on January 1st, 2026. Born June 26, 1971 in Decatur, IL to Rodney and Jeanette Horner, Craig moved to Manito with his family in 1979 when his father Rodney began working at Jake Wolf Memorial Fish Hatchery. Craig took his passion and fascination with how things work to Illinois Central College where he earned an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Design. He worked for many years as a contract designer with Caterpillar in Mossville and in Aurora locations where his love of all things mechanical were put to great use. An avid cyclist, Craig could be found cruising the back roads of Mason County training for long haul rides with fellow cycling enthusiasts over the years. Some of his favorite stories involved meeting great people along cycling routes and exploring nature's beauty on the open road. Craig had a great sense of humor. Whether it was dressing as one of his favorite movie characters, Cousin Eddie, from "Christmas Vacation" for Halloween or quoting from his favorite Monte Python Movie "The Quest for the Holy Grail", or sharing many other funny movie quotes, Craig found humor in most everything. His other passion was gaming. He was an avid gamer and shared many wonderful experiences with his gaming community friends for many years. Craig was an active member of the Manito Community United Methodist Church where he supported many of the church's community service efforts regularly including providing meals to those in need. Craig is survived by his brothers Glen Horner (61) of Pekin and Mark Horner (59) of Lindenhurst, IL and sister-in-law Laura (Wilson) Horner (59) and nieces Sarah (Horner) Reusche (30) of Mundelein, Il and Ashley (Horner) Johnson (27) of Greeley, Co.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Manito Community United Methodist Church, with visitation one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow the services at Meadowlawn Cemetery, in Manito. Rev. Steve Oaks will officiate.

Some wonderful memories:
One was regarding often forgetting to buy milk. One time we joked that we should post a reminder on our foreheads as a reminder. After forgetting milk again, we actually posted the reminder on our foreheads and reminded not only ourselves at Walmart , but others also- and they thanked us for the reminder!
Another great time was when Craig planned an anniversary trip to Geneva. We had a beautiful time together watching boats on the lake at sunrise, lunch at the park and a carriage ride.
He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed!
