William Meyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maas-Hurley Funeral Home - Manito on Feb. 7, 2026.
Deacon William (Bill) E. Meyer, 93, of Manito, peacefully passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Lodge in Manito surrounded by his loved ones. Born on May 15, 1932, in Pekin, Illinois, to William and Minnie (Albrecht) Meyer, William lived a life deeply rooted in his faith, family, and love for farming.

On January 30, 1960, Bill married Anna Marie Osterman, beginning a marriage that led to 64 years of unwavering devotion, partnership, and joy. Together, they grew a large and loving family-a legacy that remains one of Bill's greatest blessings. Anna preceded him in death on July 10, 2024.

Bill is survived by his seven children: Fidelis (Tina) Meyer of Manito, IL, Mary (Donald) Hermes of Manito, IL, Patricia (Larrie) Meyer-Hederick of Forest City, IL, Bernard Meyer of Manito, IL, Matt (Tami) Meyer of Manito, IL, Mark (Shelly) Meyer of Topeka, IL, and John (Kimberly) Meyer of Rushville, IL; nineteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great grandchildren. He is also remembered fondly by his siblings Don Meyer, Marie Selk, Joe Meyer, Lawrence Meyer, Carol Bullock, Eileen Hahn, and Paul Meyer. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna, his parents, his brother Jim Meyer, and his sisters Lorraine Meyer, Marcella Coyle, and Gertrude Wiebler.

As a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Manito, Deacon Meyer's faith was the cornerstone of his life. Ordained in 1983, he served faithfully in many ministries, including Prison Ministry, the Pekin Prayer Group, the Charismatic Renewal Program, and the Cursillo Movement. His compassionate service touched countless lives and reflected his deep desire to live out the Gospel through action and prayer.

Bill was a committed farmer, gifted horseman, and skilled craftsman. Bill dedicated many years to the beauty and disciple of horsemanship, training many horses and becoming an accomplished trick rider. He worked the land with reverence and purpose, honoring the traditions passed down through his family. His craftsmanship and work ethic were further reflected in his years with Pekin Local #644 and Carpenters Local #63 in Bloomington, where he was respected for his skill, reliability, and humility until retiring in 1997. Upon retirement, Bill enjoyed his years on the family farm, transferring his love for the land and hard-working tendencies to his children and grandchildren.

Deacon Bill's life was a testament to faith, family, and the enduring connection between a man and the land he cherished. His kindness, integrity, and steady presence will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m., followed by the Rosary. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church with an additional hour of visitation from 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the services at St. Frederick's Cemetery, in Manito. Fr. Geoff Horton and Deacon Bob Sondag will officiate.
