Onedia Rushing Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maas-Hurley Funeral Home - Manito on Jan. 7, 2026.
Onedia Rushing passed away on December 31, 2025, in hospice care at Mason City Nursing Home.

Lassie Onedia Rushing was born on July 2, 1932, in the Enville, Tennessee area. She was the daughter of single mom Hazel Tucker. She graduated from Enville High School in 1950. She married Gilbert Rushing on December 24, 1950.

They moved to South Pekin, Illinois where Gilbert had gotten a job with Caterpillar Tractor Co. Deborah June was born on April 24, 1952, Tracy Howell was born on April 25, 1962 and Trenton Howard was born on August 17, 1963.

They moved to the Forest City/Manito area in the summer of 1968. Onedia worked at Pekin Hospital as a Dietician, and at Forman Schools as a Lunch Cook. She attended many school events, mostly baseball & basketball games, and band concerts. She was a good cook, and enjoyed preparing family meals, even as the family grew in later years. She enjoyed having a vegetable garden, serving and canning the "fruits" of her labor. She was also a good seamstress, and did quilting for friends and family. Her wedding quilts are treasured by her family to this day. In her later years she enjoyed reading a good novel, and spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren. Trent shared yard work and household projects with her thru the years. She was still driving until last summer, annually traveling to Tennessee until just a few years ago.

She was preceded in death by her Momma in 1960, her daughter Debbie in 1997, husband Gilbert in 1998, and grandson Jason Theuninck in 2003. She is survived by sister Betty Joe (Tucker) Anderson of Memphis, Tennessee, son Tracy Rushing (Jeanna) of Moline, Illinois, son Trenton Rushing of Manito, Illinois, 2 grandchildren- Jeremy Rushing (Ashley) of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Ray Gordon of Belleville, Illinois, and 3 great-grandchildren- Ethan Wulf of Davenport, Iowa and Genesis and Gabriela Rushing of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, and several cousins and nieces in Tennessee.

The family thanks Pekin and Havana hospitals, Mason City Nursing Home, Gentiva Hospice, and the staff at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, plants, or gifts, the family asks you to donate to www.ArthritisFoundation.org. Online condolences can be left for Onedia's family at www.hurleyfh.com.
