Sunrise: July 5, 1960 – Sunset: July 15, 2025
Craig Johnson, beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, departed this life on July 15, 2025, at the age of 65 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Craig was born on July 5, 1960, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late William Earl Johnson and Ruby Lee Johnson, who survives him. He was the youngest of a large and loving family and was raised in the Northview Heights neighborhood before later moving back to the Hill District. Craig was deeply rooted in the Pittsburgh community and was known for his kind heart, mighty strength, and helpful spirit.
Craig was preceded in death by his father, William Earl Johnson; one sister, Earlene Woodson; and five brothers: Billy Kyte, Larry Johnson, Jeffrey Dunmore, Anthony "Tony" Johnson, and Melvin Johnson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: his devoted mother, Ruby Lee Johnson; three sisters, Deljean Johnson, Shirley Watts, and Debra Johnson; and seven brothers, Harvey (Mickey) Johnson, Earl (Leslie) Johnson, Henry Johnson, Charles "Chuckie" (Michelle) Kyte, Victor (Brenda) Johnson, Duncan Eric (Leslie) Johnson, and Calvin Johnson. He is also survived by one aunt, Irene Kyte, and one uncle, Willis Kyte, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
Though Craig never had children of his own, he played a big role in the lives of many of his nieces and nephews. He was always there for them, whether lending a helping hand, babysitting, teasing, pinching, giving out candy, or simply making them laugh. Uncle Craig was always available.
In his early years, Craig was passionate about bodybuilding. He competed professionally in numerous competitions and proudly won several medals.
A true handyman, Craig worked a variety of jobs over the years, from commercial cleaning to yard work, painting, and more. When something needed to be done, everyone knew they could "just call Uncle Craig."
Craig was a Baptized Christian and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Bellevue. He loved being at the church, especially doing maintenance and cleaning. He took pride in caring for the church and found peace and purpose in his service.
Craig earned his GED from Connelly Trade School and also received a certificate as a line cook.
He was deeply loved and will be missed greatly. But we find comfort in knowing that Craig is now at rest, free from suffering, and at peace with Jehovah God.
