Craig Joseph Maxwell entered into God’s Kingdom on December 13, 2025, after a long battle with Myotonic Dystrophy.
Born August 1, 1967, in Bay City, Michigan, he was the beloved son of Joseph and Susan (O’Brien) Maxwell. Craig married the love of his life, Adeline Kimberly Dawn (Leiva), on December 4, 1993. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and devotion to the Lord.
Craig is survived by his beloved wife, Adeline, along with his parents, his sister, Melissa (Jeff) Klass, his mother-in-law, Darlene Leiva, brother-in-law, Garret (Amy) Leiva, nephew, Jason Klass, and nieces, Emily Klass, Elisabeth Leiva, and Tiffany Wyant (Michel Cowen).
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Clara Maxwell, John and Lillian O’Brien, father-in-law, Frank (Darlene) Leiva, and sister-in-law, Maureen Leiva-Wyant (Jim Wyant).
Craig graduated from Northwood Institute in 1989 with a Bachelor's of Business Administration. He worked 35 years for Midland County, beginning in the Treasurer’s office and retired in December 2024 from the Finance Department. Craig was known for his strong work ethic, generosity, and loyalty to those he cared about.
Craig lived a life rooted in faith and devotion to Christ. Known as “Mr. Craig” to many, he enjoyed the generations of children he watched grow up as he served faithfully in the Children’s Ministry at Aldersgate Church Midland. His love of Jesus and trust in the Lord’s presence and promises enabled Craig to live his last years focused on the eternal while treasuring the time on this side of Heaven with those he loved and loved him.
Special thanks to Craig’s family, church family, friends, co-workers, and the Hospice care team of Lauren, Dan, Becky, Brittany, Chris, Mark, Chaplain Don, Angie, and Stacey for journeying with us before the Lord called Craig home.
Craig will forever be remembered for his kindness, steady presence, wry humor, and the deep love he had for family and friends.
A celebration of Craig’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Aldersgate Church Midland, 2206 Airfield Lane, with Pastor Michael T. Sawicki officiating. Visitation will take place at the church from 9:00 am until the time of the service. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at Esmond Evergreen Cemetery in Hale, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in loving memory of Craig to the Aldersgate Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the care of Wilson MILLER Funeral Home
