Craig Shannon, DVM, of Lyndon, VT, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025.

Craig was born on October 17, 1954, to Jane Claire (Adams) and Raymond Shannon. He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he would eventually attend Ohio State University, become a veterinarian, pursue his career as a large-animal vet, and be forever known as Dr. Shannon, or just “Doc.”

Dr. Shannon practiced in the greater St. Johnsbury area for most all his career and saved countless horses, cows, sheep, goats, birds, cats, and dogs. If you had any animal in distress, he would try to save it. For the few people that he allowed to be close to him personally, Dr. Shannon was willing to teach them how to do anything that he could do with animals and with life.

He liked to keep to himself, loved woodworking and, should you call with an emergency to interrupt, he might give you the Dr. Shannon attitude we all have experienced. Dr. Shannon had many sayings that people had heard, with two, in particular, being “if you step in a bucket of crap, stand still,” and “there is no small problem that can’t be made bigger.”

Dr. Shannon is survived by his long-time partner, Kim Brown, her children and grandchild; his brother Timothy Shannon, his wife Julie Shannon, their children Clair and Jonathon, and their grandchildren.

In true Dr. Shannon fashion, he requested that there be no services after his passing.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Dr. Shannon’s memory to Elizabeth H. Brown Humane Society.
