Craig Sherar Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 5, 2022.
Craig Z Sherar, 67, of East Palatka, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at his home. Born in Lancaster, California, he grew up in Utah and on a ranch in Northern British Columbia where he learned the value of hard work and how to overhaul engines. He drove the big mining trucks at a mine in British Columbia one summer. A graduate of Box Elder High School in Brigham City, Utah, Craig went to the University of Utah on a full ride ROTC scholarship and received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Miami. He joined the U.S. Army in 1979 where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division. Craig rose to the rank of Captain and served in the JAG for 4 years. Craig moved from Miami to Putnam County in 2006. In addition to practicing law, Craig owned and operated the Rodents on the Road Rat Farm for 10 years.
Craig currently served as the attorney for the Town of Pomona Park. He was a member of the Florida Bar and also licensed in Colorado and Georgia. He was a member of the Azalea City Kiwanis Club and involved in the Guardian Ad Litem Program.
When not practicing law or buying and selling properties, Craig l loved racing (open modified) as well as working on cars and engines. He was a history buff and enjoyed watching the History Channel. He was a sky and scuba diver. Craig is fondly remembered by his sister, Nia, as, "my older brother who tormented me and wrecked my Barbie Dolls! He loved to put models together and play war games. He was a big teddy bear with a big heart. He loved debate from an early age and never lost his passion to argue."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey A Sherar and Winifred Swope Sherar.
Craig is survived by 2 daughters, Sydney Sherar of Fort Collins, CO and Maya Sherar of Jacksonville, a sister, Nia Z Sherar (Boyd) of Salt Lake City, UT, a brother, Mont Z Sherar (Pia) of Copenhagen, Denmark and several nieces and nephews and other extended family.
