Cruz Ontiveros Obituary

Cruz Ontiveros was born April 1, 1989, in Clovis to Brenda Lorraine Ortega and Alberto Ontiveros, and died at his home in Portales on the evening of Oct. 3, 2022. Cruz graduated from Portales High School in 2007. While he was in school, he played as a running back and a wide receiver in football, and was a point guard in basketball. For a time after high school he attended college, and had decided that he wanted to become a nurse. However, he was never able to complete those plans. Instead he worked in construction for Badbury Stamm.
He and his brother enjoyed playing pickup basketball and flag football, and often competed in the Gus Macker Basketball tournaments. Cruz also collected and sometimes resold sports cards. He always enjoyed being with his family, grilling and playing horseshoes. He was also an excellent poker player.
He is survived by his mother, Brenda Ortega and his father, Alberto Ontiveros both of Portales; a daughter, Avery Ontiveros of Wichita, KS; a brother and sister-in-law, Keisto and Gerianne Ontiveros of Lubbock, TX; and a sister, Andrea Ontiveros of Portales.
