Currie Wollin Obituary

Published by Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home on Dec. 2, 2003.
STATESVILLE -- Mrs. Currie Council Wollin, 83, of 1324 Royalty Circle, died Monday, December 1, 2003, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Wollin was born December 3, 1919, in Bladen County, NC, and was the daughter of the late James F. and Sadie Shaw Council. She was married to the late Ernst Wollin, Sr.

Mrs. Wollin cared for and loved people. She was the first Secretary of Northview Elementary School in 1960 and served in that capacity for 26 years. Her life revolved around serving people, beginning with her church, family, and friends. In so doing, she led a simple life of Christian service. Currie was an active member of Broad Street United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Sara Foster Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, and co-chairperson of Study Group #5. She served as visitor to the shut-ins, was a volunteer at Davis and Iredell Memorial Hospitals, was a member of the Widowed Persons Organization, served as treasurer for the Association of Retarded Citizens, and was active in the Retired School Secretaries’ Association. Currie especially enjoyed her Wednesday volunteering, power lunches, and evening programs at Broad Street.

Currie had a deep love for her family, and she always looked forward to family occasions. Her Christian life has been a gift and continues to be an example for all who loved her.

She is survived by three sons: Ernst George Wollin, Jr. and his wife, Judith, of Wilkesboro, NC, James T. Wollin and his wife, Susan, and Charles F. Wollin, both of Charlotte; one daughter: Martha W. Carpenter of Charlotte; six grandchildren: Chris Wollin, and wife, Sherry, Jennifer Wollin, Amy Glosson, and her husband, Brad, Jamie Wollin, and his wife, Holle, Cameron Carpenter, and Matthew Carpenter; one great-grandson: Connor Glosson; one sister: Ruby C. Dunn of Bladenboro, NC, and one sister-in-law: Dorothy Wollin Gallun of Cedarburg, Wisconsin.

The family wishes to thank all the doctors and nurses at Iredell Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their personal care and support.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Broad Street United Methodist Church with the Revs. Rob Rollins and Oren Edmunds officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home.

For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be given to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 315 W. Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28677.

E-mail condolences may be sent to the family at www.legacy.com.
