Curtis Robert "Bob" Ashman
July 7th, 1942-June 25, 2024
On June 25th, following a very brief stay at the Vitas Hospice, in N. Naples, Fl, Bob died peacefully. He looked forward to joining his wife, Lynn, her son Sean, as well as many other family members who'd preceded him in death; especially his parents and brother, Jerry.
Named after his two grandfathers, Curtis Covey and Robert Ashman, Bob was eagerly awaited by his parents, George and Pauline (Covey) and his big brother, Jerry. On Tuesday, July 7th, 1942, at St Francis Hospital in Beech Grove, Indiana he made his grand entrance, joining a large and growing Ashman Clan. His extended family of many aunts, uncles and cousins affectionately called him "Little Bob," since his uncle was "Big Bob!"
Growing up on the south side of Indianapolis, Bob graduated from Southport High School in 1960, lettering in football and wrestling. His prowess as a winning wrestler earned him a scholarship to Ball State University where he continued to excel as a champion. Earning his BA degree in business he eventually visited Florida in the 1970's. He quickly realized he never wanted to experience another winter and became a transplanted Hoosier.
Bob found a job, enjoyed fishing with his Uncle Don, as well as spending long hot summers viewing the "babes." In 1980, at the ripe old age of 38, he met THE ONE, Lynn Nolan and her son, Sean Meyers. They married and enjoyed 35 years together, living in North Naples and spent many vacations on the island of St Martin.
Bob worked several jobs, he was a long-time employee at the Home Depot on Pine Ridge Rd, in Naples. He enjoyed a cup of coffee and bagel at the Einstein Bagel shop before work. It was there he met the Einstein Brain Trust members; Frank, Big Dick, Roy, Jim, and BA. Nearly every morning any and all were welcomed to join in a very lively discussion about current events.
Bob beat his first battle with lung cancer only to have it return again in 2023. He was doing well until he underwent immunotherapy and had a severe reaction. His cousin from Atlanta spent a few months with him helping him get back on his feet and was seemingly on the road to recovery. Sadly, in December his health began to decline and he spent several months in nursing homes. His family were fortunate to find a wonderful caregiver to assist with eating, as well as getting him out of his room when he was physically able. During that time there were many conversations with family and friends where Bob adamantly stated he just wanted to be "over this s*%#" and join Lynn the "love of his life!"
Bob's shy, but devilish grin and quiet demeanor will be greatly missed by all who knew him!
He is survived by his sister in-law, Therese A., (Bob) Dahringer, MI. nephew, Gary Ashman, Mooresville, In., Derrick (Tricia) Ashman, Grand Haven, MI., niece, Renee (Brad) Smith, Williamsburg, MI., and his many Hoosier cousins. Also his Naples family: brother-in-law, Tom (Lynne) Nolan, sister-in-law, Jill (Jeff) Windt, Dylan Rooney, David, Mollie, Emilia as well as his nieces; Kellie Nolan, and Katie Ware. Bob always enjoyed visits from his young, great niece, MaKaiya Garcia.
The family wishes to also acknowledge Bob's wonderful neighbor, Augusta, who helped in so many ways, his good friends, Keith and Stephanie Wilt who spent many hours with Bob at the nursing homes, his caregiver, Deborah Perry. I also want to give a shout out to two Southport alumni, Judy Synder and Bob Duncan, of Atlanta GA. Bob Duncan and Bob were high school football co-captains. Bob always looked forward to his conversation with Bob each week.
Thank everyone for your support, friendship to Bob, as well as to his family.

I grew up in the same neighborhood as Bob and went to school with him. I remember as a senior Bob wrestled in the State Final match and lost, coming in 2nd in the state, which is quite a feat. Right after the match they presented Bob with the 2nd in state medal. He took it and threw it up in the stands. His coach got on to him about his action, but knowing Bob somewhat over the years and things he had to overcome I realize not everything came easy to Bob and he fought many battles and didn't accept 2nd easily. His was a fighter and a winner in life and always gave it his best. Quite a guy, not many like him.

Bob was a key member of the Einstein Brain Trust and will be sorely missed by his Einstein friends and his wonderful cousin Donna from Atlanta! Even while in pain due to his illness, Bob brought a jovial attitude every morning and hopefully the camaraderie allowed him to forget his pain for a couple of hours each morning.
We´ll miss you, Bob but I know Bill and Ken will have a coffee shop in heaven for you guys to discuss how heaven can be improved!!
