Curtis Eugene Benter, age 86, of Seymour, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, June 23, 2025, at his home on the family farm surrounded by his loving family.
Curt was baptized in Christ on November 24, 1938, and confirmed in his faith on March 29, 1953, both at St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers. He and his wife, Sarah, remained devoted members of St. John's Lutheran Church, Sauers. Curt was also a dedicated member of the Men's Club at the church for many years.
Curt graduated from Brownstown High School in 1957. He was enlisted in the Indiana National Guard for eight years, beginning in 1956 and being honorably discharged in 1964. He then worked at Citizens State Bank for 28 years, and he was also employed at Jackson-Jennings Farm Bureau Co-op for several years. His greatest passion was working on the farm.
Family was of utmost importance to Curt. He cherished his loved ones deeply, and they, in turn, loved him immensely. He found joy in spending time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events and other activities. Curt had a special fondness for watching Brownstown Braves basketball, Purdue basketball, and Cincinnati Reds baseball. He also enjoyed going to the Jackson County Fair and traveling to the Smoky Mountains.
Born on November 11, 1938, at his home in Sauers, Curt was the son of Gustave E. and Emma (Darlage) Benter, both of whom preceded him in death. On April 19, 1964, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wegan, he married Sarah M. Goecker, and she survives in Seymour.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Donald) Schnitker of Seymour; two sons: Michael (Linda) Benter of Seymour, and David (Kristy) Benter of Brownstown; eight grandchildren: Emily (Amber Brady) Schnitker, Luke (Katlynn) Schnitker, Nathanael (Cassie) Benter, Olivia (Kile) McKee, Anna (Noah) Voelker, Katherine Benter, Jack Benter, and Lena Benter; four great-grandchildren: Lyla Schnitker, Henry Schnitker, Laurel Schnitker, and Kurtis McKee; one sister, JoAnn (William) Brock of Seymour; two sisters-in-law: Alice Hutcheson of Brownstown, and Rita Stahl of Brownstown; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Benter was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerald and Edna (Pfenning) Goecker; one brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Marilyn Benter; and two brothers-in-law: Frank Hutcheson and Steven Stahl.
