Curtis Vernon "Bud” Brooks, 85, of Cottonwood Heights, amazing husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather returned to his Heavenly Family on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16th, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with many health issues including a traumatic brain injury and Parkinson’s disease.

Bud was born on Father’s Day, June 19th, 1938 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Carl Vernon Brooks and Annetta Fern Hadlock Brooks. He was the youngest of two children; his sister Stella being 2 years older.

He met Linda Darlene Cadwell on April Fool’s Day, 1965 while they were both attending the University of Utah. They were married on October 1,1966 and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Every year for 57 years, he would say “This joke’s gone far enough”. Together they raised 5 children.

Having a love of music since Jr High and, after graduating from Granite High, Bud joined the Navy where he was a radioman and played his trumpet in the drum and bugle corps. He then went to the University of Utah where he was in the Marching Band, Concert Band and sang in the elite Men's Chorus and where he received a BA degree in psychology and music. He had a beautiful tenor voice and was asked to sing solos around the valley. He is now singing in the Angel’s Choir.

At the age of 24, Bud was called to serve in the South German Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which had a major impact in his life. He loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many positions in the Church; music and choir director being his favorite. He also enjoyed serving in the Jordan River Temple for a number of years. A highlight of Bud and Linda’ s life was serving in The New York Rochester Mission as host missionaries at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints historical sites.

He was a hard worker with a quick wit which made him very likable. Having a long and successful career in pharmaceutical sales, he was consistently in the top 10% in the nation and won many awards.

Family was his first priority; always supporting them in whatever activity they were engaged in. Bud was very athletic and played fastpitch softball until age 52. He played tennis, golf, snow and water skied and taught his children to be proficient in all.

Bud is survived by his loving wife Linda, half-sister Karen Urrutia; children: Tad C. Brooks (Tammy), Jed V. Brooks, Jennifer B. Navarro, Nathan R. Brooks (Koprina) and Benjamin C. Brooks, 16 Grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his Parents, sister Stella Chivers, brother-in-law Deloss Chivers, son-in-law Jeffery J. Navarro, and nephew James Faircloth.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the VA who provided aides and nurses through Superior Home Care and Hospice; and for the kind and loving care given to Bud over numerous years, especially Giancarlo and Margie.
