Curtis Eric Cannell was born in Quincy, IL on July 20, 1964, to Henry Cannell and Vivian (Anderson) Cannell. He grew up on a farm in Mendon and attended Unity School District. After High School he attended Spoon River College and achieved an Associate Degree in Diesel Mechanics. He worked at a John Deere dealership for a few years and then Greenmount Cemetery.
He met his wife Lois Staff, and they were married June 2, 1990. They moved to Missoula, MT where he attended the University of Montana and achieved a Bachelors in Forestry. He then attended Montana Tech in Butte, MT where he achieved a Masters of Industrial Hygiene. Soon after his thesis defense their first child, Caroline Elicia Cannell, was born February 11, 1999. The family moved to Twin Falls, ID where he began his career at Magic Valley Medical Center. Their second child, Catherine Elizabeth Cannell, was born there on September 18, 2001. He developed his career as an Industrial Hygienist and achieved his Industrial Hygiene Certification on the first try. No easy feat. They followed his career from Twin Falls, ID to Boise, ID, to Peroia, IL to Scottsbluff, NE, to Vail, CO, and finally Laramie, WY where he worked at the University of Wyoming as its sole CIH. He was a big Wyoming Cowboys fan and enjoyed many sporting events there. He retired from this position in 2024 due to health issues. He then began a remote position with Ecumen providing his years of experience and expertise. Curtis enjoyed hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, hauling his daughter's horse to shows, loving on the family dogs, and taking his Mustang for a spin now and then.
Curtis passed away on June 30, 2025, after a long battle with Lymphoma and then End Stage Renal Disease.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Cannell; Caroline and Catherine Cannell; siblings, Brent (Vicki) Cannell; Bruce (Mary) Cannell, and Susan (Merle) Kenady; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Cannell; and a nephew, Daniel Cannell.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 12, 2025 in Laramie, Wyoming.
There will be a Memorial Service at the Ursa Christian Church, Ursa, IL on October 4, 2025 at 11:00am for friends and family. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
