Curtis Howard Johnson, 91, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Kernersville Medical Center. He was born to the late James Clyde Johnson and Flora Belle Collins Johnson on February 9, 1933, in Surry County.
Curtis served proudly in the United States Navy. He owned and operated Curtis Music for over 50 years. Curtis donated many instruments to the Veterans Association in his years and was very involved in the Veterans community.
In addition to his parents, Curtis is preceded in death by his sisters, Irene, Lorine, and Mary; and brother, Eugene. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Betty Lyons Johnson; son, Wayne Johnson (Brenda); grandson, Chad Johnson (Amanda); granddaughter, Faith Godwin (Aaron); great grandchildren, Taylar Johnson, Caleb Johnson, Kirsten Johnson, and Asher Godwin; great-great grandchildren, Kennadi, and Ava; siblings, David Johnson (Arlene), Ed Johnson (Mary Sue), and Joey Johnson (Arlene); and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to Brenda Whicker for all the love and support for Curtis during this time.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday, February 19, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Officiating the service will be Rev. Roger Cook and Rev. John Norman. The burial will follow at Knobbs Baptist Church Cemetery in Elkin, NC.
