Curtis Edwin Mcleod was born July 29, 1941, at Home in Grove Hill, Alabama. He was the oldest child of three boys. After his mother's death of tuberculosis, when he was very young, his family moved to Hueytown, Alabama. Curtis played football for the Golden Gophers and graduated from Hueytown High School in 1959. He attended both the University of Alabama and what was then known as the University of Livingston for his undergraduate degree and also played football as a guard. He graduated with his master's at the University of South Alabama and continued to work on his doctorate at the University of Alabama Birmingham.
He began his coaching career in 1962 and never stopped. He coached for the Jefferson County School System and continued coaching in his retirement by coaching both his grandsons and their friends, as East Lake Eagles, Countryside Cougars and Oldsmar Falcons.
He married Donna Grissett McLeod in December 1965.
As a young man, he always dreamed he would meet his wife coming down a staircase and that's exactly how it happened. He got his first glimpse of Donna descending a staircase and married the love of his life within the year.
They were married 42 years and 100 days until her untimely death of pancreatic cancer March 28, 2012, which he calculated and wrote down on her memorial keepsake and kept on his desk.
He is survived by his only child Valerie McLeod Wade
And her two sons Jaedon and Ty Wade, whom he has been helping to raise their entire lives.
He was a Mason and a Shriner which gave him many opportunities to do charitable works.
He was a Roadrunner for the Shriners and drove countless sick children to the various shrine hospitals throughout the country.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and marksmanship.
He loved teaching and coaching
And was a mentor, coach, Daddy and Granddaddy to his family and all of their friends. He was an excellent storyteller and a history enthusiast.
He loved all sports, especially football and loved the Crimson Tide.
His family grew up watching football and learning X's and O's from him.
He was devout in his faith in God and extremely patriotic.
He was devoted to his family and all the players he ever coached and mentored.
He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.
He spent his last days speaking to old friends professing that he couldn't wait to see His Don again and that he had spent thirteen long years without her. He was ready to be with her again which gives his family Peace.
He never stopped Loving her and there was Never Anyone else.
