Curtis M. O'Brien, 83, of Palmyra, went home unexpectedly to be with Jesus on Friday, January 17, 2025 at the VA Medical Center, Lebanon. He was born on January 3, 1942 to the late Mahlon and Hilda (Bowman) O'Brien. He is survived by his loving wife, of 62 years, Sandra L. (Baker) O'Brien.
Born and raised in Palmyra, Curtis was a member of the Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, and was in the 1959 graduating class of Palmyra High School. After high school he enlisted with the US Marine Corps, and served from 1959 to 1963. He was a long term member of the Bob Smith Detachment #784 of the Marine Corps League, Hummelstown, where he served as Commandant for two of those years. He was also a proud member of Indiantown Gap National Cemetery Marine Corps League Honor Guard rendering military honors for over 10 years. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed working at the Hershey Giant Center as an usher. After over 31 years of work, he retired from H.B. Reese Candy Company. More than anything he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Rhonda Leese and husband Brian, Lynnette Quimby and husband Dean; grandchildren, Natalie Ferry and husband Sean, Jonathan Chambers and wife Brittney, and Hannah Quimby; great grandson, Owen Chambers; siblings, Celia O'Dell, Nancy Ptak and husband Edward and Jane O'Brien. He is predeceased by his sister, Mary Baranowski.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025 at noon at the Gravel Hill United Methodist Church, 131 Gravel Hill Rd., Palmyra, PA 17078. A time of viewing will be held from 11 AM until the start of the service. Burial will follow at Gravel Hill Cemetery, Palmyra with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers memorial contribution can be made in his Memory to his Church. See address above.
