Curtis Shawley Obituary

Curtis Shawley Jr., 84, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Jan. 30, 2026. Over the past ten months, he faced a series of complex medical challenges that required extended stays in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities. Despite these hardships, he made meaningful progress and was able to return home just after his birthday in early January. Curt is survived by his sister, Esther; his former wife and mother of his four children, Cheryl (David) Hentschel, Mark (Jeff Krainess), Mike, and Carri (Keith) Dolin; as well as his many grandchildren. Throughout his life, Curt strived to be the best person he knew how to be. While he sometimes carried a tough exterior, those who knew him well understood that beneath it was a warm and gentle heart, much like his mother's. He spent his career driving millions of miles hauling freight as a proud member of the Teamsters union, but his deepest passion remained the family farm where he was born and raised. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the legacy of a man who worked hard through a transformative era in Western Pennsylvania, witnessing the region's evolution from its industrial roots to a hub of technology and medical innovation. Curt will be laid to rest at Eastview Union Cemetery in Delmont, beside his parents and grandparents. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026, at BASH-NIED-JOBE FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont (724-468-8381), where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2026, with Joe O'Brien officiating.
