Obituary published on Legacy.com by King-Tears Mortuary, Inc. - Austin on Nov. 3, 2025.
Born On May 8, 1962 to Cornelius Swist & Sylvia Taylor, Curtis Taylor was welcomed into the world! It was from birth that his legacy would begin as a born and raised Austinite in a house on Kemp Street, deep in the Montopolis neighborhood of
Austin, Texas. Known affectionately as "Nut" to his friends and family, Curtis was the embodiment of charisma. With his heartwarming smile and captivating charm, he could light up a room simply by entering it. His compassion shone in the way he loved and cared for his siblings, friends, and those around him. His resilience was evident in the way he faced life's challenges even at the tender of age of 15, where he decided as a young man to begin his career in manual labor. He would go on to lay the foundation of what would prove to be an extensive work history spanning across employers like Solid Waste Services (City of Austin), BFI, UPS, & Lauren Concrete to name a few.
Curtis was a graduate of William B. Travis High School where he made many friends along the way. However, there was one friend of the family that knew him better than most. After many years of friendship he would go on to ask Virginia Alexander for her hand in marriage. Through holy matrimony he would become a Father to his one and only son Randall Taylor and Step-Dad to Shonta Davis, both titles he took equally to heart. He was a loving father and an adoring grandfather to his grandchildren, LaShontae, D'Zion, D'Arron and his bonus grandbaby, Grace.
Curtis' love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life including barbecuing with family in Lufkin, recording and capturing loved ones during the summer at Schlitterbahn from behind his camera or camcorder, & family camping trips at Paleface or Horseshoe Bay. Through his own passions and natural athleticism he would serve as the Head Coach the Delwood Mustangs and Delwood Red Raiders, which his son played on with teammates and Coaches whom the family cherishes to this day.
As he grew older the manual labor occupations he was experienced in began to take a toll physically. However, Curtis found peace and tranquility by the water and became an avid Fisherman. Prior to Curtis being called home to glory, as any Father would... He called his family and prepared us to carry his legacy forward. We shared a prayer where we repented, and asked God to bring peace and comfort with each decision made. With Randall by his bedside his last breath was taken at Hospice Austin, where he received the care and comfort he requested. Curtis' legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched. Though Curtis is no longer with us he leaves to honor his memory: his son, Randall Taylor (Kayla), sister, Crystal Fears-Wilson (Eric), his brother, Dominic Fears (Rhonda), along with his beloved grandchildren, LaShontae Wade, D'Zion Taylor, D'Arron Taylor, & Grace Chatman. He is preceded in death by his father, Cornelius Swist, his mother, Sylvia Fears, and his brother, James Taylor.
