Curtiss D. "Curt" Baumgart

Curtiss "Curt" D. Baumgart, 79-year-old resident of Pierz, MN, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2023 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, June 2, 2023 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN with Rev. David Sperstad officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:30 A.M - 12:00 P.M. on Friday, June 2, 2023 at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN. Caring for Curtiss and his family is the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN.

Curt was born on December 23, 1943 in Bluffton Township, Otter Tail County to the late Ted and Evelyn (Kadell) Baumgart. Curt graduated from New York Mills High School. He served 6 years in the Minnesota National Guard and was later honorably discharged. Curt was united in marriage to Mary Lou Orcutt on December 22, 1967 at Calvary Baptist Church in St. Cloud, MN. He was employed at Fingerhut for many years as a truck driver and owned and operated Blue Sky's Mobile Home Park in Sauk Rapids, MN. In the early 80's, he was a Pittman for a few dirt track car racing teams. Curt was an avid horse lover. He cared for and raised many horses throughout his life and was very involved in various horse organizations. Some of which include the Benton County Mounted Patrol, Minnesota High School Rodeo, Clearwater Rodeo, Silver Bullet Saddle Club, Royal Riders Saddle Club, Minnesota Horse Expo, and the Benton County 4-H Club. Curt could be found at many sales barns working or helping out with the horse/tack sales. He was also a member of the Benton County Fairboard. Curt was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

Curt is survived by wife, Mary Lou Baumgart of Pierz, MN; daughter, Tammy (Mike) Otremba of Pierz, MN; grandson, Lane Otremba of Pierz, MN; siblings, Rita (Allen) Zepper of White Bear Lake, MN, Karen (Leon) Potratz of Elk River, MN and Clyde (Marie) Baumgart of Detroit Lakes, MN; sisters-in-law, JoAnn Baumgart of Sauk Rapids, MN and Shirley Gerads of St. Cloud, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents, Ted and Evelyn Baumgart and his siblings, Ronald Baumgart and Bruce Baumgart.
