Cynthia Galivan Obituary

Galivan, Cynthia Bounds
ALBANY - Cynthia Anne (Bounds) Galivan, 84, passed on March 14, 2026. She was the only child of Edgar and Catherine (Sammon) Bounds of Albany.
She was a graduate of Vincentian Institute '59, and the College of Saint Rose, and earned a Master's Degree from San Diego State University.
She was a Professor Emeritus in English and Public Speaking at H.V.C.C., and was a well known and beloved civic reformer and neighborhood advocate in Albany.
Cynthia is survived by her daughters, Amanda S. Galivan, of Albany, and Katherine D. Kania (Matt), of Oregon; as well as her grandchildren, Shannon and John Pierce. She was predeceased by her children, Julie Galivan Gregory, in 2022, and her son, Brendan Sullivan Galivan, who died February 14 of this year.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany, N.Y. 12206. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Her funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m., at the Parish of Mater Christi, 40 Hopewell St., (Rev. Kenneth J. Doyle Way), Albany, N.Y. 12208. The Right of Committal will be held immediately after the Mass, at the Bounds family plot, Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont, N.Y.
