Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Homes & Crematory Inc. - Wausau WestCynthia “Cindy” M. Hurtis, age 68, of Wausau, passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, surrounded by family.
She was born October 28, 1957 in Anchorage, Alaska, the first child of the late Joseph and Romayne (Brickner) Breaman. She was a 1975 graduate of Marathon High School.
Cindy spent many years working in the Marathon City office for Hurtis Oil, Company. She also worked for the Wausau Walmart where she was a valued and dedicated employee for several years.
Cindy had a passion for hosting rummage sales in her garage. A devoted fan of feel-good stories, Cindy could always be found with a Hallmark movie playing in the background, a source of constant comfort and joy. She would quickly change the channel and switch her allegiance to cheer on her favorite athlete, Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes, or most recently now, the Indiana Fever was playing. Cindy also cherished her time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children: Sheila (Jenni) Hurtis of Dubuque, IA and Patrick Hurtis of Wausau; four grandchildren: Madison and Maddox Hurtis; Lorelei Hurtis and Phoenix Hurtis; two great grandchildren: Lyric and Quantez, Jr. Brown.
Additionally, Cindy was briefly survived by her mother Romayne Breaman of Merrill. Cindy is survived by her sister Lorrie (Andy) Berens of Marathon; brothers Joseph (Lisa) Breaman of Irma and Michael (Sue) Breaman of GA; brother-in-law Francis Seubert, of Marathon, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Besides her father, Cindy is preceded in death by her sister Deborah Seubert; and several uncles and aunts.
A Prayer Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 2026 at the Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Avenue, Wausau. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Marathon. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the Stewart Avenue funeral home.
