Cynthia Sutphin McCulloch of Myrtle Beach, SC, age 70, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 31, 2025. She was born on December 10, 1954 in Mount Airy, NC to Billy and Betty Jo Sutphin. Cindy was a graduate of Ragsdale High School and Guilford Technical Community College and spent many years as a dental assistant in Greensboro, NC and Myrtle Beach. After taking a break to raise three children, she found a new career and family of friends as a teacher's aide at Forestbrook Elementary School for 12 years. Cindy loved working with children and considered the years she spent at Forestbrook Elementary School to be the most rewarding of her career.
Having been moved (reluctantly) to Myrtle Beach from Greensboro during the weekend of Hurricane Diana in 1984, she soon found it to be a wonderful place to live and raise a family. Cindy recently found a new passion in attempting to attend every baseball, basketball and soccer practice and game for her grandkids, rain or shine. She also enjoyed retirement in her new neighborhood and her group of book club and "Bunco" friends.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ellis McCulloch; children, Matthew McCulloch, Andrew McCulloch, and Haley McCulloch Colway and her husband Jordan Colway, all of Myrtle Beach. Brothers, Ronnie Sutphin of New Bern, Michael Sutphin of Greensboro, and Jeffrey Sutphin of Myrtle Beach; cherished niece Amanda Sutphin; and her beautiful grandchildren, Carter Colway, Jack Colway, and Thomas Colway.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Cindy touched are invited to the McMillan-Small Funeral Home, 910-67th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC on Friday April 4th, 2025. The family will be receiving friends at 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 5:00 PM in the chapel, and with a brief visitation immediately after.
