Cynthia Munson Obituary

Ms. Cynthia "Cindie" Weiss Munson, age 77, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 7, 2023. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 16, 1945, to Philip and Elinore (Dwyer) Weiss.

Cindie graduated from Grosse Pointe Academy of the Sacred Heart and shortly after moved to Boston, Massachusetts, to attend college. She instantly fell in love with Boston and remembered her time there fondly. She later moved back to Michigan where she earned her Bachelor and Master of Education. Cindie raised her family in Dearborn, Michigan, prior to moving to the family cottage on Lake Michigan in 1992. Miss Cindie, as her students affectionately referred to her, spent her career teaching in several different districts before retiring from Griffin Elementary School in Grand Haven. In retirement, Cindie enjoyed swimming at the Spring Lake Aquatic Center, reading books with her book club friends, spending time on the beach, and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be remembered fondly as a big kid at heart, singing and joking up to a couple days prior to her death.

She is survived by her two sons, Gregory Munson and Christopher Munson; and two grandchildren, Brooklyn Munson and Brady Munson. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Suzanne Weiss.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2023, at St. Patrick-St. Anthony Catholic Church (920 Fulton St., Grand Haven, MI 49417) with Father Dan Schumaker presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass. Burial will be in Mount Elliot Cemetery, Detroit, Michigan. Memorials in memory of Cindie may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association. You may sign her online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.

Chris & Greg - I am so very sorry to see this. It doesn't seem like we're old enough to be losing our parents. I always loved coming over to talk with your Mom in the summers and have lots of fond memories from time spent together (a LONG time ago). Will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Love,
Amy Gilbert

My memories of Cindie are very centered around children. First, meeting her darling young boys and later, when we had our own children. Cindie was always so interested in the young ones. She really listened to them and knew just how they liked to be treated. We have very fond memories of sitting on her deck chatting away and enjoying the beach. She did have a great sense of humor too and was always interested in what was going on with you. Her years as a preschool teacher in Grand Haven were very rewarding for her and I know she left a huge void when she retired. Everyone adored her.

The North Shore neighborhood and The Ainsworth´s will miss her very much. May you rest in peace Cindie - Our love, Betsy and Bud
