Daisy Olson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Moore's Jacksonville Funeral Home - Jacksonville on Apr. 13, 2025.
Daisy Mae Olson, 92, of Jacksonville passed from this life on April 12, 2025. She was born June 6, 1932 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Andrew and Nellie (Hibbard) Olson. Daisy grew up in Tichnor, Arkansas and graduated from Gillett High School just shy of her sixteenth birthday. After high school she attended Arkansas State Teachers College (UCA), earning a pre-law degree. She took a job as a secretary and attended law school at Arkansas Law School at night. After graduation from law school, she took a job as a legal secretary while she studied to pass the bar. Daisy was licensed to practice law at the age of 24. In 1961 she became the City Attorney for the City of Jacksonville, a position she held for five years. Afterwards she moved on to own her own practice for forty-four years before her retirement in 2000.
Ms. Olson spent her career focusing on family law, serving the needs of her community. She learned early on that the practice of law is a jealous mistress; one which she devoted all of her energies too. Although her career demanded a great deal of her time, Daisy somehow found the time and energy to serve her community and profession in multiple ways over the years. She held many offices in the Business and Professional Women's Club, including District Director and Editor of the state magazine. She was named Woman of the Year twice in the local organization. In addition to all of her other professional duties, she also served as the Secretary of the Planning Commission for more than ten years.
Ms. Olson was also a member of First United Methodist Church Jacksonville for more than sixty years. During her time as a member, she served in the Wesleyan Service Guild, the Mary Martha Circle, served as Secretary of the Administrative Board and taught three different Sunday School classes. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and the local Care Channel. Her last volunteer role was as an Office Angel with her Church.
In addition to her work and church activities, Daisy had many varied interests that included sewing, cooking, knitting, sightseeing, driving just for the feel of being behind the wheel, and playing pitch and bridge. She was also a voracious reader and loved working in her yard, often known to her neighbors as the flower lady, she had something in bloom year-round.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Orville G. Olson.
Left to cherish her memory are her nephew, Robert Olson and wife Stacy of Hensley; great-nieces, Carissa Olson of Hensley and Jessica Olson of North Little Rock. Other survivors include several cousins, extended family and many friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 21, 2025 at First United Methodist Church Jacksonville, 308 W. Main Street, Jacksonville, Arkansas 72076. Private interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Pine Bluff. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church beginning at 10:00 a.m.
