Dale LeRoy Bakker, age 96 of
Cherokee, IA, passed away Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Careage Hills in
Cherokee, IA. It was Dale's wishes to be cremated and no public service is planned at this time. The Greenwood-Schubert Funeral Home in

Dale Leroy Bakker was born September 3, 1928, in Quimby, IA to John and Pearl Peck Bakker. Dale attended schools in Quimby and Cherokee, graduating from Wilson High School in Cherokee in 1947. Dale served in the U. S. Navy from 1947 to 1950 completing Lab Tech Schooling at Bethesda, MD graduating as a 3rd Class Petty Officer.
Dale was raised from the age of two by his grandparents, Arthur and Emma Woltman Peck in
Cherokee, IA. Dale was united in marriage to Patricia Neustrom in 1951 and to this union, they were parents of eight children. This marriage ended in divorce. Dale was united in marriage to Marion Mcamis Hale on August 4, 1978, at the Little Brown Church in the Vale at Nashua, IA. At this time, Dale became father to Marion's 4 Hale children along with his 8 children, making an even dozen!
Dale was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a great love for his family, relatives and friends and saw some good in everyone. Whatever task he accomplished had to be perfect and he was a man of his word. He was deeply loved and will be missed.
Dale was a past president of UFCW Local 179 in
Cherokee, IA. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Cherokee, a member of many camping clubs, card clubs, and spent many years traveling with his wife, Marion all over the U.S. He enjoyed jig saw puzzles and watching old western movies.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, John and Pearl Peck Bakker, stepfather, Dale Painter, Peck grandparents, brother, Darrell Bakker, son, Jr. Bakker, daughter, Barbara Bakker, granddaughter, Stacy Goth, daughter-in-law, Shannon Goth, sister-in-law, Susie McAmis, and brother-in-law, Neal McAmis.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Marion, children, Mick (Sue) Bakker, daughter-in-law, Lauren Bakker, Cindy (Harry) Sizeland, Deb Green and Lennis, John Bakker and Mary, Tom (Jacque) Bakker, and Linda (Kirk) Torgenson; stepchildren, Dan Hale, Shawn (Vickie) Hale, Ryan (Char) Hale, 25 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, a very special needs grandson, Charlie Hale, and a very special couple, Ron and Rhonda Goth.
The family would like to thank the Cherokee Regional Medical Center and Careage Hills for the wonderful care Dale received. Thanks also to Dr. Loughlin, Dr. Chris and Lisa VandeLune and Pastor Mike from the Methodist Church for Dale's care and the kindness shown to Marion and Dale's family. A special thank you to neighbors Paula Hill, Jeff Blum, and Todd and Sheila Anderson.
In keeping with his requests, Dale has been cremated, and no services are planned, so take that time to be with your loved ones. For those who knew him, no explanation is necessary. For those who didn't know him, no explanation is possible.
