MONTICELLO - Dale E. Lehigh, 89, of Monticello passed away at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2025) at home.
Dale was born on March 2, 1936, in Urbana, the son of Myron Russell and Mildred Catherine (Pittman) Lehigh. He married Frances Lucille Bobbs on July 2, 1955, in Urbana.
Dale is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frances L. Lehigh of Monticello; children, Terri Sue (Steve) Ayers of Lexington, S.C., Vikki (Rich) Hook of Covington, Ind., Bobbi Vance of Monticello, Michael Dale (Karen) Lehigh of Rockville, Ind., and Marci (Chuck) Bailey of Allerton; 15 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Jean Busher; brothers, David and Philip Lehigh; son-in-law Larry Vance; and infant great-grandson Isaiah Lanie.
Dale worked hard his whole life in the grocery business, serving in management with Eisner Food Stores and later Jewel Foods.
Dale was a member of Second Christian Church of Danville. He loved the Lord, reading scripture, and faithfully served the church as an elder.
Dale was an outdoorsman at heart who loved hunting and fishing. He was also a gifted woodworker and enjoyed carving and painting duck decoys as well as carousel horses.
He loved his family dearly, and he will be missed beyond words. As for the family, they will not grieve as those without hope, "For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep" (Thess. 4:13-14).
A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Town Square Hospice of Monticello or Monticello Crossroads Church. Condolences may be sent to the family at mackey-wrightfuneralhome.com.
