Dale (Mitch) Mitchell passed away on September 5, 2024.
Dale was born Nov. 17, 1939, to Wayne and Laura Mitchell. He attended school in Perham, Minnesota and graduated from Fargo Central High in 1957. Dale worked at Empire Supply and later at Selland Motors. While there he enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his many co-workers.
In 1960, Dale married Carole Brunelle, and they made their home in Moorhead. They had a son Jesse in 1965 and a son Michael in 1967.
When Dale was sixteen, he joined the Minnesota Army National Guard while still in high school and in 1965 started working for the guard as a technician. He retired in 1997 as a Chief Warrant Officer 4. Dale was very proud to be a Bear Cat and serve his country for over 43 years with the National Guard. Prior to his retirement, Dale received the Distinguished Order of St. Martin award and has been the only recipient of that award from the State of Minnesota.
Following his retirement, Dale & Carole enjoyed their lake home on Middle Cormorant for 27 years. He also enjoyed traveling, making many trips to Hawaii before finally settling in Apache Junction, Arizona as his winter home. Dale loved hiking, riding bike, and the friendships he made doing the things he loved. Dale’s love of sports never left him, his favorite team was the Bison and he was a season tickets holder for nearly thirty years. Dale was active in many clubs including the Moorhead Athletic Association, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Charitable Concerns, and Valley Vintage Car Club. Dale also did a lot of volunteering for the Moorhead Police Department retiring only after he was no longer able to walk. Dale found retirement difficult so passed his leisure years working for Kjera Trucking and Valley Metro Ride Service in the summer months.
Dale will be missed by many but mostly by his grandchildren: Courtney Jokenin (Tyler) Maple Grove, Minnesota; Austin (Camille) Champlin, Minnesota; Jack and Josephine Mitchell, Fargo, North Dakota; and great-grandchild Sloan, Maple Grove, Minnesota. Dale is survived by his wife, Carole, and their two sons, Jesse (Sherry) Mound, Minnesota; and Michael (Kara) Fargo, North Dakota; his sister Sharon Taylor, El Dorado, Arkansas; and special nieces and nephews Shelly Pribula, Jillinn Taylor White, Scott Pribula, and AJ Taylor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour before the service at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Moorhead, MN.
