Meredith (Dale) Oglesby passed peacefully on February 5, 2026 with his wife and family by his side.
Dale was born in
Huntington, WV and moved to
Beckley, WV with his mother, Charlotte his father, Ivey "Bud" and his younger brother, Dan. He later relocated to Columbus, Ohio to attend The Ohio State University. While living in Columbus, he met Nancy and they married after only 4 months of dating. They spent 58 years as husband and wife. His mother-in-law, Alice Blair, he loved deeply and looked at as a second mother. Dale spent many years in the car business before owning several bars in Columbus. While working in the car business, practical jokes were a part of his daily routine with his coworkers. He shared his contagious humor with everyone around him. When he coached his daughters in softball at Holy Spirit Elementary School, he was given the nickname "Oggy." Later when he was the owner of several local bars, especially "Oggy's Pub" he formed lasting friendships. Many referred to him as "dad" and of course, "Oggy." He greeted others with a "hey bud" and made everyone always feel welcomed.
He loved his Buckeyes, Corvettes, cigars, playing pool, a good game of cards, but most of all his family.
He will be remembered as a great and funny man, a father figure to many, and as many described him "one of a kind!" His love, kindness and humor will be in our memories and inspire us to always give love without asking for anything in return, as he did.
He is survived by his wife Nancy, brother Dan (Beth) Oglesby, daughters Shawn (Chuck) Koenig and Shannon Oglesby, and Adam "A.J" (Misty) Hans who he loved and considered his son, his grandchildren Meredith (Evan) Cutler, Blair (Demetrios Lykos) Hance, CJ , Zachary, Aaron, Savannah (Cameron) O'Hearn, Nicholas (Kaitlyn) Vannelle, and Vince Vannelle, his great-grandchildren Ivey, Shep and Lainey, his nephews Jeremy and Jeffrey Oglesby and many more nieces and nephews. Dale, Dad, Pap, Uncle Dale, Big Dale, Oggy loved his family unconditionally.
His family and friends will forever hear "What d'ya say bud?" when thinking of him. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date in Columbus, Ohio
