Abingdon, VA – Dale Edward Orfield, age 95, passed on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at his home. Dale was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean War Era. He worked for Dupont in Richmond, VA for over 38 years as a pipe fitter before retiring. In 2005, he relocated to Abingdon, VA where he attended Abingdon Baptist Church. Dale spent much of his time fishing and loved raising his yearly garden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morgan Washington Orfield and Fannie Harris Orfield; siblings, Hyskel Orfield, Roger Boyd Orfield, Hazel Harris, Mabel Minnick, Dorothy Price, Lena Fern, Perry Orfield, Silas Orfield, Jack Orfield, and Lorena Prillaman.
Dale is survived by his wife of 75 years, Janette Boothe Orfield; five children, Roger Dale Orfield and wife Patricia, James Robert Orfield and wife Anita, Patti Orfield, Cheryl Carmack and husband Ricky, and Janice Garlitz; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 12:30 – 1:45 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2025, in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Graveside services will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park with Dr. Bill Bryan officiating. Pallbearers will be Polo Hawkins, Sean Nash, Robert Dale Orfield, Mitchell Orfield, Joshua Orfield and Nicholas Orfield
