Dallis Hoffman

1940 - 2025

HALIFAX - Dallis L. Hoffman, 84 of Halifax Township, passed away unexpectedly on March 24th surrounded by his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and local grandchildren.



Born May 20, 1940, on Front Street in Halifax, Dallis was the son to the late Loraine E. and Orpha E. Hoffman and resided in Halifax all his life. He is predeceased by his only son, Taft T. Hoffman, who tragically passed in 2003.



He is survived by the love of his life for 68 years (married 62 years) LouAnn Marie (Riland) Hoffman who he met while attending Halifax HS at Boyer Memorial. After both attended college, they married and had three children- Heather Miller (Charles, II), Gretchen Gallagher (William, III)-NJ, and Taft Hoffman (Anne (now married to Dave Schwalm)). He was blessed with nine grandchildren- Haley (Hoffman) Hise (Anthony)-VA, Dalton Miller, Meghan (Hoffman) Peck (Hunter)-NJ, Chase Miller (fiancé-Madisyn Horn)-NC, Chloe Miller, Nathan Miller, Madeleine Gallagher-NJ, William Gallagher, IV-NJ, and Caroline Gallagher-NJ. Dallis had unwavering devotion to his family.



As a youth, his bike, a baseball, and his border collie were his constant companions. He excelled in athletics as a teen and achieved Eagle Scout status. He started dating LouAnn in 1957 and graduated from Halifax High School in 1958; they married in July 1962. As an avid outdoorsman, fisherman, and hunter all his life he notably received the PA State Triple Trophy Award in 1969.



Dallis received his degree from West Chester University in Phys Ed/Driver's Ed in 1962 and a Teaching Certificate from Temple University. He taught for three years at Gettysburg High School and then fourth grade for 32 yrs at Susquenita Elementary School.



As a lifetime member (since birth at Otterbein Methodist) to the Halifax Community Church, Dallis's faithful life was one of steadfast stewardship. He was the Cemetery Supervisor 27 yrs since he retired from teaching, Food Room Transport Volunteer for 23 yrs, and a Trustee for many decades. He was honored to be asked to lead the walking procession (with The Church's bible in hand) to the new "church on the hill" in Spring 1990.



Dallis's daily joy came from waking up every morning for the past 60 yrs on his 10 acres and looking West at his Susquehanna River boat landing, South at his gardens and orchard, North at his woods he hunted, and East at his flower beds-then spending the entire day with "his everything" LouAnn tending to them. He was blessed to be able to do this every day of his life until his very last.



The joy he derived from our earth's natural bounties and his love of travel, a good tomato, a day in or on the water (whether river, lake, or ocean), storytelling, and any dog he met- is a lasting gift to all his children and grandchildren. We were taught by him about our earth and its history as well as its creatures, trees, seasons, plants, fruits, moon, stars, topography- and its Creator. Loving, rich, and fun memories of him are imprinted in our hearts and minds forever, so that we may continue his legacy of love.



The family will receive friends on Saturday, 29th of March, 2025 at Halifax Community Church from 2:00 PM- 3:30 PM. A memorial service will begin at 3:30 PM, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Following the graveside the family will gather with friends for a fellowship meal in the church social hall.
