Dalton Ray Cozad, lovingly known as "Ray", 75, passed away August 1, 2025 in Childress, Texas.

Visitation is scheduled Wednesday August 6, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Home.

Services are scheduled for Thursday August 7, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Childress Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Ray was born on August 16, 1949 in Borger, Texas to Oscar Cozad and Helen Langston. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After his military service, Ray was a car salesman for many years. He retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after 19 years as a correctional officer. On September 2, 2000 he married the love of his life, Mary Jane. Together they shared 25 years of marriage. The two of them loved to travel. They went to Florida, Minnesota, and even went on three cruises – they truly loved going on cruises together. Ray also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf, singing karaoke, and leading Mary Jane around the dance floor. He was a fun loving man with a friendly manner. Ray was a member of the Elks lodge-- #1113, for 47 years.

Niece: Laura McIntire and husband Kevin

Nephew: Tony McCormick and wife Renee

Brother In Law: David Hickman and wife Sherri

Brother In Law: Darrell Collins

Nephew: Craig Collins

Niece: Farrah Holcomb and husband Tommy

Nephew: Ryan Hickman and wife Kimberly

Niece: Amy O'Conner and husband Sean

Niece: Chrissy Pierce and husband Zach

Niece: Brandi Manuel and husband Joe

Sister In Law: Mary Ann Hickman

He is also survived by numerous cousins, great nieces, and great nephews as well as numerous extended family.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents; Father, Oscar Cozad, Mother, Helen Langston, Sister; Audrey McCormick, Mother In Law; Kathleen Hickman, Father In Law; Clarence Hickman, Sister In Law; Linda Collins, Nephew; Devin Hickman

The family requested that memorials be made to your favorite Humane Society.
