Damas Roberto Ortiz, 77, of Mineral Wells, Texas, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Damas was born on March 27, 1948, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to Fredrico and Pauline Ortiz. He was the most selfless man; kind, gentle, and always welcoming with his vibrant and unforgettable smile. He was the quiet presence behind the camera at every family gathering capturing memories so others could be in the moment. Known by many as the “Gas Man” Damas dedicated over 30 years of service to the Southern Union Gas Company, now known as Texas Gas Services.
Above all else, he was devoted to his family. He shared 56 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Paula Ortiz, a milestone they celebrated together at his hospital bedside; a powerful testament to their enduring love and commitment. He will be remembered for his deep love and unwavering loyalty to his wife; a bond rooted in faith, respect, and a lifetime of shared memories.
His memory will forever be defined by the special and unbreakable bond he shared with his granddaughter, Autumn “The Ash” as he’d call her- a relationship filled with deep love, warmth, and a quiet understanding that held profound meaning for them both and will be cherished always.
He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Paula Ortiz. He is survived by his children, Michelle and Daven Robinson and Robert Ortiz; his grandchildren, Rylee and Jayden Ortiz, Autumn and Justin Dominguez, Joe Perez, Michael and Kayla Perez, Tommy Robinson, Michael Robinson, brother Paul Ortiz, and sister Cindy Looney.
His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Oakley Dominguez, Elijah Dominguez, Damien Perez, Hadlynn Perez, Rylan Perez, Kannon Perez, and Haysten Perez.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrico and Pauline Zepeda Ortiz; brothers Fred Ortiz Jr, Guadalupe Ortiz, and Ray Ortiz; sisters Mary Sanchez, Barbara Crowley, Judy Cortez Puryear, Esperanza Ortiz, Rita Porter, Christina Steward.
Rosary and visitation will be held Wednesday, January 28, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at BaumCarlockBumgardner Funeral Home in Mineral Wells. The church service will be held on Thursday, January 29, at 3:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Mineral Wells.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
