Saul Berrios Ortiz passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family and some siblings at his home.
Saul was predeceased by his parents, Florencio Berrios Ortiz and Maria Candelaria Ortiz Diaz; his brother, Oscar Berrios Ortiz; and his two older sons, Saul, Jr. and Xavier Berrios.
Saul Berrios Ortiz was born in Corozal, Puerto Rico on January 4, 1961. Saul was a hard worker and a quick learner. He developed skills in carpentry, electrical, and construction from various individuals growing up among family and friends. He was a humble man who was willing to help others in need. He came to New Britain Connecticut seeking better opportunities for his family.
As a servant of Christ with the talents given, he put his gifts of service to those in need within the community. He served as a Minister of the Holy Eucharist, lived his Cursillo Weekend. He was a man of integrity, confidence, honor, sincerity, with a good sense of humor and joy. He was a quiet, humble man who was always willing to assist. Saul enjoyed salsa and merengue music. Artists he enjoyed were Tito Nieves, Ruben Blades, Chea Feliciano, and Oscar D'Leon to name of few.
Saul will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marta Berrios Diaz; his son, Irvin Saul Berrios and his wife Heather Nelson, and their children, Xavier, Jalissa May, Zerina Lee; his daughter, Samara Berrios and her husband Kevin Pablo Rolan, and their children, Kevin Pablo, Jr., Kiara Penelope, and Kiera Paulina. Saul was a loving father who was actively present in his children and grandchildren’s lives creating beautiful memories that will remain in their hearts forever. Saul also leaves behind his siblings, Pedro, Marta, Ernesto, Angel Luis, Gladys, Evelyn, Hirman and Edgardo; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Corozal and in New Britain.
The family would like to thank Dr. Brian Byrne, Hartford Hospital Hospice, and Damian Wolski, RN. The family is also grateful for the support of Fr. Casey, Fr. Walsh, Deacon Alan Bielawski, and all of the community members of the St. Francis Parish and Sister Mairette Moan, ASCJ.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 11 AM at St. Jerome Church, 1010 Slater Rd., New Britain, CT 06053. A calling hour will be held Thursday morning from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at St. Jerome Church.
After the Funeral Mass there will be a reception at St. Jerome Hall. Once cremation has taken place, a private burial will take place.
