Damian Smith

1949 - 2026

Damian Clyde Smith passed away January 12 following a heart attack while golfing in Alpine, Utah.

He was born November 11,1949 to Albon and Mary Smith. He was the 3rd of 10 children. He had a happy childhood on the family farm with plenty of chores to go around. He attended Bonneville High School where he was honored to be student body president his graduating year of 1968. He served a mission for the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for two years in Japan overlapping with his brother Llewellyn who also served in Japan. He became proficient in the Japanese language and in the written language of kanji which served him well in his practice of international law and as he served his church as legal council for Asia.

He married Paula Sumsion and together they raised 5 beautiful children. They lived in Seattle and Salt Lake City and the Philippines and Hong Kong before settling in Alpine, Utah. His wife, Paula passed away in 2022.

He found companionship and happiness with Vickie Powell of Rexburg and the two were married January of 2024. They traveled and worked together renovating his home and enjoyed each other's families.

He was exceptionally active as he continued water and snow skiing with youthful vigor. He loved golfing with his sons and coworkers and was also an accomplished pianist with many classical pieces at his fingertips.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Paula, his brother, Llewellyn, brother in law, Randy King and his parents. We take comfort in knowing of the wonderful reunions taking place in Heaven.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie, his children, Raleigh (Tandy), Jordan (Kelly), Lilianne (Jason Wright), Preston (Courtney), McClain (Lauren) and 22 grandchildren as well as his siblings Catherine (Jud Miller), Stafford (Shelly), Claudia (Val Lowder), Shirley, Woody (Dawn), Heather (Andre Linchenko), Nathan (LaDawn), and Cameron (Honica).
