He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. Psalm 24: 4 – 5 KJV
Damier Aquil Johnson-Roberts was born on February 28, 1996, in Livingston, New Jersey to Sherman G. Roberts Jr. and Badriyyah A. Johnson-Davis. Damier was the third eldest of six children and an exemplary role model to his siblings.
Damier was reared in New Jersey. He attended Hillside and Kenilworth public schools, graduating in 2014 from David Brearley High School, of Kenilworth, New Jersey. Damier was a focused student, frequently achieving honor roll and high honor roll status. He was also an accomplished athlete. Damier was a three-year varsity letter winner in football and track & field. He proudly wore his #2 jersey, playing the positions of wide receiver and defensive back. His senior year stats were impressive: 46 tackles, 3 passes intercepted, 1 reception, and 9 yards. Damier served as Co-Captain of the football and track & field teams. He was also recognized as a NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 2 Wrestling Champion while at David Brearley High School.
Damier attended St. Peter's University where he was a sprinter and hurdler as a member of the University's track and field team. He was the proud recipient of the "Ignatian Flame Award" for Superior Contributions to Campus Life at St. Peter's University. He was also the President of the Health and Fitness Club. Upon graduating from St. Peter's University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education, Damier pursued a career in education. He obtained a substitute teacher certification for grades K-12 in the Carteret School District. His first teaching position was at Jersey City Global Charter School. He was later employed as a Health and Physical Education Teacher at Linwood Middle School located in North Brunswick Township, New Jersey. He was a valued member of the "Fab 5" teaching team. Damier was an enthusiastic and innovative educator who made a positive and profound impact on the lives of his students. He was an active member of the New Jersey Education Association.
Damier was well, respected, and revered as a coach. He was known for his strategic and comprehensive approach to coaching. He served as the Assistant Spring Track Coach at North Brunswick High School, and the Chess Club Advisor at Linwood Middle School. His eyes lit up when he talked about the joy he felt when working with the children who participated in the Chess Club. He was also an Assistant JV Basketball Coach in North Brunswick. Damier was more than an instructor; he was a mentor and an inspirational figure whose impact extended far beyond the basketball court.
Damier was an active person who had many hobbies. He was passionate about sports and enjoyed: training, weightlifting, running track, playing football and basketball. He could also be found reading, learning Spanish, washing his car "Pegasus" (He kept his car as clean as a whistle!), playing chess, dancing, going out partying with his friends, biking, riding his motorcycle, building things, playing video games, traveling and swimming. Damier took great pride in his appearance. He was always clean, presentable, and professional. Keeping himself well-groomed was an absolute must. Damier naturally encouraged those he cared for and interacted with; his favorite sayings were "Make it happen" and "You got this". Two things that Damier held in high regard were love for his family and health and fitness. He relentlessly stressed the importance of exercise and maintaining a healthy diet. Whenever and wherever possible Damier motivated and helped others.
Damier was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, located in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He gave his life to Christ and was baptized on December 2, 2012. Damier diligently read the bible, longing to be closer to the Lord, and desiring a pure heart. He was developing a closer relationship with his Savior. Damier was a blessing and an inspiration to many. Those who were fortunate to know him encountered his warm, caring, and genuine spirit.
Damier transitioned from this earthly life to be with the Lord on January 10, 2024. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Gary B. Johnson.
Damier leaves to cherish his precious memory: his father Sherman Roberts Jr. (Vanessa); his mother Badriyyah A. Johnson-Davis (Mark); his brothers: Brandon K. Roberts and Mark J. Davis; his sisters: Dominique A. Davis, Tyerrah D. Griffin and Tanasia J. Philippe; his grandfather Sharman Roberts; his grandmothers: Johnita N. Johnson and Gwendolyn Roberts; his uncles; Shedrick S. Roberts, Quincy Washington, Garcia Outlaw, and Gary B. Johnson II; his aunts: Allail Q. Miller, Nadia L. Roberts, Sharmanike Outlaw, and Arianne Limbrick; he also leaves to mourn an unparalleled cousin and brother at heart: Al-Rahmier Johnson, and a host of close cousins, relatives, extended family, and friends. Too many to mention, but he loved them all.

Parent of Jaxon Jacques - Linwood School

January 21, 2024

My son was scared of moving from 4th grade to 5th grade and when he got to Linwood, Mr. Johnson-Roberts embraced him, encouraged him, and made my son feel like he could do all things. When the school announced that his favorite teacher had passed away, my son cried himself to sleep for 2 days. The impact that Mr. Johnson-Roberts had on the children, our North Brunswick community, and our hearts will never be forgotten and I thank you for the messages and the conferences regarding my son. You will remain in his heart. Sending love, light, peace, and healing energy to the family of this remarkable man at this very difficult time.
