Cynthia Mahar Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Leonard-Lee Funeral Home on May 19, 2024.
Cynthia A. Mahar, 63, a lifelong Linden, NJ resident, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 18, 2024.
Cindy suffered a massive brain bleed and upon arrival at the hospital, we were informed there was nothing that could be done to save her life. Her journey was unexpectedly and suddenly changed as a result of a swimming accident at the age of 14. A spinal cord injury rendered her quadriplegic for the 49 years that followed. Cindy navigated her new normal, became a graduate of the David Brearley High School, and found a career at the Linden Fire Department as a Secretary and Payroll Clerk for many years before retiring in 2018.
Cindy found joy in spending time with and spoiling those she loved and cared about. She enjoyed her trips to Atlantic City with Mom, shopping on QVC, and celebrating the magic of the holidays with the most incredibly decorated home both inside and out.
Cindy was the loving daughter to the late Retired Linden Fire Captain, Jack Mahar and Agnes Pavlik Mahar. She is survived by her brother, Jack Mahar and his wife, Jeanie, and her sister, Kathy Mahar. She was a loving aunt to Steven Mahar, Erin Maffucci and her husband Anthony, and Lauren Mahar. She was a doting Great aunt to Anthony, Marco and Lia. She also leaves behind her loving aunts and many cousins, and the proudest dog mom to her puppy, Cooper. The family wishes to thank Cindy's care giver of 15 years, Rosie Porch, for her loyalty and steadfast dedication.
Cindy's kindness, generosity and thoughtful nature didn't leave upon her passing. She was placed on a ventilator for 3 days, successfully preserving her organs, to complete her final act of selflessness. Cindy was able to give the gift of longer, healthier lives to two others by donating both of her kidneys. Her pancreas will be studied for further cancer and diabetes related research in hopes of saving countless others in the future. While devastated by her loss, we are infinitely proud of the legacy she now leaves.
To Our Beloved Cindy - May your wings be as strong as your legs as you enter the gates of Heaven.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at the Leonard-Lee Funeral Home, 301 E. Blancke Street, Linden, from 4-7 p.m.
Funeral proceedings will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Elizabeth R.C. Church, Linden. Burial will follow at Rosedale Memorial Park, Linden.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to the Sharing Network, 691 Central Ave, New Providence, NJ, 07974, or the Christopher Reeves Foundation, 636 Morris Tpke, Suite 3A, Short Hills NJ, 07078 would be humbly and greatly appreciated.
