Obituary published on Legacy.com by Arner Funeral Chapel - Chester on Jan. 12, 2026.
Daniel P. Barton, age 93, of East Liverpool, passed away peacefully at the Calcutta Health Care Center on Friday, January 9, 2026, after a very brief illness. A gentle soul with a twinkle in his eye, Dan left behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication that touched all who knew him. Born and raised in the hills of New Cumberland on November 10, 1932, Dan was the son of Clyde Barton and Eva Dunlevey Barton Cline. After losing his father as a child, Dan was lovingly raised by his stepfather, Ray Cline, who helped shape his resilient and generous spirit. For 43 years, Dan poured his heart into the rolling greens of the East Liverpool Country Club, tending the grounds with the same devotion he gave to his family and friends. Before that, he worked at Crucible Steel in Midland until its closing. Answering the call of duty, Dan left New Cumberland High School to join the US Air Force, where he served honorably in Korea, earning promotion to the rank of Air Policeman on February 4, 1952. Beyond his service, Dan's competitive spirit shone as an avid bowler and a force to be reckoned with on the fast-pitch softball field. He was a proud member of East Liverpool VFW Post 66. Along with his parents, his children, Tim Barton, Randy Grey, Eugene Williams, and Dianna Jackson, and his siblings, Wilbur Barton, Ray, Jim, Tom, Don, John D., Dave, Gail Cline, Marie Delposen, Dora Strum, and Betty Nagy-Litton, preceded Dan in death. Dan leaves behind the love of his life, Betty Eddy Barton, his partner since their marriage in March 1977, a union that spanned 48 years of laughter, love, and shared dreams. His family tree is wide and flourishing, including cherished children Chasity Barton at home, Terry (Jerry) Smith and Jenny Spurlock of South Carolina, Pamela Pavesi of Georgia, Kathy Gantt of South Carolina, Tim (Laura) Barton of Toledo, Jerry (Cathy) Barton of South Carolina, Bill (Darla) Grey of Lisbon, and Bob (Stephanie) Grey of East Liverpool, and his sister, Nancy DeRosa of New Cumberland. The legacy Dan created lives on in his grandchildren-each one a story, a smile, a memory-Tisha, Danny, Josh, John, Joseph, Thomas, Nicki, Christoper, Ethan, Naomi, Olivia, Daniel, Ezekiel, Phoebe, Jachin, Chloe, Devon, Matthew, Brigette, Amanda, Megan, Destiny, Chad, Becca, Alicia, Alexis, Halie, Brian, Amber, Holly, Rich, Michael, Sharie, Amyah, Sophia, Baylee, Callie, and Karson-as well as beloved grandchildren he raised as his own: Trudy Falcone, Heather Mackall, Brittany Grey, and Amir Baptiste. Dan's story continues through countless great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Special mention goes to nephew Wilbur (Teresa) Barton, who was always there to lend a hand, and to Dan's faithful dog, Allie, who will miss his gentle presence most of all. Private military honors will be accorded by the Tri-State Veterans Burial Group and the US Air Force Honor Guard. A memorial service is being planned by Dan's family. Dan is in the compassionate care of the Arner Funeral Chapel.
