Dan DesFosses Obituary

Dan DesFosses, our beloved husband, father, and grandpa, passed away peacefully at his home on January 20th, 2026 surrounded by family. He would have turned 80 on March 25th, but lost a hard-fought 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. Dan was born to Paul Albert and Leoma Haskett DesFosses, the middle of 3 children, and lived all of his life in Pocatello. He graduated in 1964 from Pocatello High School where he loved playing the violin in the Orchestra. Throughout high school and college he worked as an orderly and P.T. aide at the hospital. This is where his love for Physical Therapy began, and after graduating with a B.A. in Psychology from Idaho State in 1968 Dan was accepted to the University of Pennsylvania Physical Therapy program. He later obtained his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine. Dan and his business partner Ric Benedetti ran a very successful clinic, Pocatello Physical Therapy, for over 40 years. In 1973 Dan met and married the love of his life, Lynn Larson. Together they raised 5 children and have 20 grandchildren.

Dan had many passions and hobbies throughout his life. Dan earned his pilot's license after college and loved flying his friends and family around the Northwest in a 4-seater plane. He loved going to airshows, air museums, and antique car shows. For many years he had a 1957 Imperial that had been his Mother's that he adored. Dan loved antiques and yard sales and loved getting a good deal on anything. Dan loved being outdoors and going in the RV. Dan's greatest love was supporting his children and grandchildren throughout his life in their sports and activities; he was their greatest fan. Dan was a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and found true joy by serving in the temple and serving others. He was a true disciple of Christ, and tried to live and treat others in a way that represented that.

He is survived by his wife Lynn of 53 years, his children Ryan (Christina), Jamie (Troy), Renee (Matt), Teri (Scott), and Brandon (Jessica), as well as his 20 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Paul Jim, his sister Diane, a son Michael, his mother and father-in-law Shirley and Rex, and his wife's sister's Jolene and Ardana.

Funeral Services will be January 31, 2026 at 11 a.m. at the Victory Building (4600 Victory Ave). The family will receive visitors at a viewing starting at 9:30 a.m. that morning. Graveside services will follow the funeral at Mountain View Cemetery.

I knew Dan from working at the same hospital. He was a genuine upstanding gentleman and Physical Therapist. My condolences to his family and all who knew him.
