A Funeral Mass for Dan Hanig, of Des Moines formerly of Wesley, will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Wesley. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Divine Mercy Parish - St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wesley. Burial will be held after the mass at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wesley.
On November 16th, 1967, Daniel (Dan) Randolph Hanig was born at the Britt Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa. He was the son of William and Karen (Michelson) Hanig.
Dan grew up in the town of Wesley, Iowa and attended CWL. In high school, Dan enjoyed participating in sports with his favorites being football and basketball. He graduated with the CWL class of 1986. After high school, Dan worked in construction prior to moving to Des Moines. In Des Moines, Dan started his career as a maintenance worker, which he enjoyed.
When Dan wasn't working, you could find him spending time with his family and friends. He loved to cook for his mom, watch the Food Network, and watch sports. He also would spend his free time working on crafts such as woodworking – something that his late father taught him. Dan would gift a lot of creations to his family which they will now consider as mementos of Dan and the love he had for them. Dan will be remembered for his chicken noodle soup on Christmas Eve, his love for Bobby Flay, and his devotion for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Dan passed away at the age of 56 on Monday, August 26, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa, peacefully in his sleep.
He is survived by his mom, Karen Hanig of Wesley; siblings, Doug Hanig of Mason City, Sheila Bollinger of West Des Moines, Julie (Mark) Fischels of Clear Lake, and Patti (Dale) Kiley of Wesley. Dan is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Josh (Janice) Hanig, Jon Hanig, Conner Bollinger, Zachary Bollinger, Madison (Mike) Aanonson, Matthew (Katelyn) Fischels, Malorie (Michael) McMahon, Nick Kiley, Nate Kiley, Becki (Jake) Donaghy; and 12 great nieces and nephews.
Dan was preceded in death by his dad, William Hanig; nephew, Jeremy Hanig; and brother-in-law, Gregg Bollinger.
